Summary:

Lust for life: Kirk Douglas gives a fierce portrayal as the artist torn between the joyous inspiration of his genius and the dark desperation of his tormented mind.

The bad and the beautiful: A director, an actress and a writer each explain why they never want to work with producer Jonathan Shields again. Through their stories a portrait is sketched of this man who rose from making B-movies to one of Hollywood's biggest producers by using people in order to get him to the top.

Young man with a horn: A lonely little boy peeks into the window of a Skid Row dive. Mesmerized by the soaring magic played by a small jazz combo, he longs to create the same sounds. So with the guidance of a brilliant bluesman, the boy develops into a superb artist.

Before I forget: Legendary actor Kirk Douglas recounts his remarkable life in a celebrated one-man theater performance augmented with rare film highlights.
